A play based on the works of Sergei Dovlatov

This October, Leonid Taranov—an actor from St. Petersburg’s famous "Stray Dog" (*Brodyachaya Sobaka*) artistic cellar—brings his one-man show *Stories from a Suitcase* (based on the works of Sergei Dovlatov) to Israel.

The "Stray Dog" is one of St. Petersburg’s most renowned theatrical and literary venues—a place with a unique history and atmosphere where theater takes place literally within arm's reach of the audience. For years, it has hosted literary performances based on the works of Dovlatov, Zoshchenko, Filatov, and other authors.

One of the "Stray Dog’s" productions—*Stories from a Suitcase*, performed by Leonid Taranov—will be presented in Israel for the first time this autumn.

This is the Dovlatov we know and love: funny, precise, slightly absurd, and instantly recognizable. His characters include bureaucrats, editors, black-market dealers, blue-collar workers, soldiers, and convicts—people from the recent past in whom, even decades later, we easily recognize familiar personalities and situations.

And they all come to life on stage through a single actor.

Leonid Taranov is a master of the one-man show and character transformation. In the span of ninety minutes, he portrays a whole gallery of Dovlatov’s characters, instantly shifting from one persona to another. Yet the central figure remains Dovlatov himself—an observer and participant in this slightly absurd world, recounting it with his signature humor.

*Stories from a Suitcase* has enjoyed a long run at the "Stray Dog" in St. Petersburg. In October, Leonid Taranov brings the production to Israel for the first time.
